Florida Atlantic University (FAU) researchers have developed a sensor platform that is cheap and simple, from a drop of blood to detect harmful bacteria and viruses. When used in conjunction with smart phones, this system provides the potential for remote diagnosis from anywhere in the world.
The system works very similar to standard PH test, patients can be placed in a drop of fingertip blood or saliva on a piece of film containing cellulose. If films are designed to be used to detect specific types of viruses (such as HIV) or bacterial (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and so on), if it exists, then the film will turn blue.
Patients can use their Smartphone's camera to take a photo of a film, and send your photos to specialized medical institutions for analysis, without the need to care for the patient in the world. Although the technologies developed may be useful, but it is for those who have not yet improved medical center and equipment in developing countries can play a role that changed their lives.
FAU's computer science and engineering, school of Electrical Engineering Assistant Professor Dr Waseem Asghar said, "especially in resource-strapped developing countries, they can be used in clinical care of powerful, portable, disposable and inexpensive biosensor platform with urgent needs. "
Because the detection technology are cheap, and films can be handled safely by burning after using, diagnosis and monitoring of global infectious disease over time may have a great impact, especially in low-income and middle-income countries. MCM iPhone 6 Plus Case
The researchers behind the study believe that this idea can become a regular health monitoring on a regular basis, every day is similar to using the Fitbit fitness Tracker to keep track of their daily activities. Researchers also say, easy to make and the price can be endured by people means that the technology can also be found in drug development, food security, environmental monitoring, and application of animal medicines.
